E132: A behind-the-scenes look at Assassin's Creed Mirage.
Good morning gamers! Assassin’s Creed Mirage promises to bring the Assassin’s Creed series back to its stealth roots, and from what we’ve seen so far, it’s true. In anticipation of the game’s October 12 release, Ubisoft offered fans a deeper dive into Basim’s story, and a behind-the-scenes look at the games development. Here’s what we learned,
Who is Basim?
Basim fits the mold of a classic assassin, deadly and resourceful with a complex personality. Mirage is a strong narrative-driven experience to match that.
Players meet Basim in his youth, making a living on the streets of Anbar, near Baghdad. He’s alongside his best friend and partner in crime, Nehal.
Basim has been haunted by visions and nightmares that he has been unable to understand his entire life - questioning who he is, and where he belongs.
He learns the ways of an assassin and becomes one of the Hidden Ones at renowned Assassin Homebase, Alamut.
Basim fights to free Baghdad from the Order’s oppression but also struggles with the internal conflict of trying to understand his past, and the meaning of freedom.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Development
Ubisoft wanted a setting reminiscent of the first Assassin’s Creed game so they made the connection between the Golden Age of Baghdad and Basim.
Mirage is a completely new story that takes place 12 years before the events of AC Valhalla. It doesn't require players to have played Valhalla or any other game from the series, but there will be Easter eggs, secrets, and lore connections for those who have.
The game follows Basim's journey from apprentice to mentor, which is depicted through linear and story-driven progression (there is no XP-based progression).
Your rank increases within the Brotherhood as you make your way through the story and complete missions - giving you new opportunities for missions, outfits and tools.
Tools and outfits can be upgraded and customized for Basim, making the character personal to each player (including the return of outfit dye).
Combat has been revamped and includes new moves and mechanics built specifically for Basim and his agility-focused playstyle. Like Altaïr, Basim’s primary combat tools are his sword and dagger.
