DC FanDome Recap
DC FanDome is an annual event that many fans look forward to because it showcases a variety of DC content. The Batman movie trailer definitely headlined the event but gamers have two awesome games to look forward to.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League from Rocksteady Studios is releasing in 2022 and they showed off the story trailer at DC FanDome. Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark will have to take on Brainiac and the evil versions of DC heroes like Superman. Players will take to the streets of an “open-world” Metropolis set in the Rocksteady Studios “Arkham Universe”. Fans patiently await gameplay, however, the game will support both single-player and multiplayer.
Gotham Knights continued to show off Gotham City without Batman via their new story trailer. WB Games Montreal's new game will focus on Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and Red Hood taking on villains such as Mr. Freeze and the Court of Owls, an organized crime group and secret society made of Gotham’s Wealthiest people. The game is expected to be released in 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
Injustice 3 was highly anticipated by fans prior to DC FanDome. Unfortunately, NetherRealm Studios did not reveal any information regarding the next instalment in the Injustice series. Despite Ed Boon, the director of NetherRealm being present at the event, he only spoke about the upcoming Injustice movie.
New Avowed Details
Avowed is one of the most highly anticipated Xbox exclusive games currently under development by Obsidian Entertainment. Not much was known about the upcoming medieval fantasy RPG other than what we’ve seen in the July 2020 CGI reveal trailer.
Last week Xbox Era podcast host and Windows Central writer Jez Corden released some key new details which were sent to him by a reputable source familiar with Microsoft’s plans. He said that “If Outer World’s was Obsidian’s take on a Fallout-style game, Avowed is undoubtedly Obsidian's take on The Elder Scrolls”. Here are all the new details,
The game is deep into pre-production, approaching a playable alpha state
Set in the Pillars of Eternity universe
Uses an enhanced version of The Outer Worlds engine
Heavily action-oriented and in the first person perspective
Includes deep RPG exploration and narrative systems
Features multiple class playstyles with class restricted elements
Uses Skyrim’s two-handed loadout-based combat system (wielding two swords, using a weapon in one hand while casting spells with the other etc.)
Magical abilities will include Wizard spells (for destruction) and Status Effect spells
Weapon enchantments seems to be a prominent feature
Features a surprisingly colourful environment with lots of interactivity (swimming, environmental destruction, viscious creatures etc.)
Esports Corner
Valorant Headed Back Online
Riot Games has officially postponed the North American Valorant Champions Tour Last Chance Qualifier due to concerns over various positive COVID test results and playing conditions. Only one full day of matches were played before two FaZe members were forced to play from home after receiving positive test results (which they later tested negative for). There is no indication as to when the LCQ will resume but Riot has said that they’re “working diligently to transition the LCQ to an online event”.
Super Smash Worlds
The details for the first ever Smash World Tour Championships have finally been revealed. Participants from more than 15 countries will make their way to Florida to compete for their portion of the $150,000 total prize pool, split between Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Super Smash Bros Melee. The event will take place between December 17th and 19th in Orlando, Florida at the Hilton Orlando Hotel (2000 person spectator capacity). Players who haven’t yet qualified through the various Smash World Tour regional tournaments will be able to qualify through a Last Chance Qualifier open-bracket tournament held on the same weekend.
100 Thieves Adopts Another Brand
North American esports organization and lifestyle brand 100 Thieves have acquired peripherals brand Higround. The acquisition will see the two companies release limited edition 100 Thieves keyboards but both will remain independently operational. Higround is a boutique keyboard company that is known for releasing limited edition mechanical keyboards in drops, similar to how 100 Thieves sells their apparel. Higround co-founder Rustin Sotoodeh said “with the help of 100 Thieves, we’ll be able to create some really, really crazy stuff”.
Game Review - Back 4 Blood
Earlier last week, KFC Gaming called Back 4 Blood a cheap copy of Left 4 Dead, but they were wrong. Turtle Rock Studios have made changes since the Beta; the graphics are brilliant, the bugs have been fixed and the card system has been improved. The cross-play multiplayer experience is a lot of fun especially while playing with friends, and if you’re a fan of killing hordes of zombies with your pals, this game is for you. If you’re someone who prefers to play solo, we do not recommend you purchase this game. The Left 4 Dead franchise has a special place in our hearts and Back 4 Blood felt like a worthy successor. For those of you who haven’t played the Left 4 Dead series, we highly recommend you at least try out this post-apocalyptic blood bath. We give Back 4 Blood a score of B.
